Female Friendly Fashion for the Work From Home Mom

With more women becoming homeowners they would naturally be a growing segment of the overall home renovation market. Notice how home improvement manufacturers have shifted much of their advertising to women, with ads and marketing specifically targeting them. “I don’t think women should have to blend in and pretend. We’re different. We’re colourful,” she reasons. Most new entrepreneurs aren’t lucky enough to have their product catch the eye of Home Depot Canada president Annette Verschuren. Paul Edwards, co-author of the book Home-Based Businesses for Dummies, said people such as Ladewig have the ability to make a good living by working from home. He said there has been at least a 10 percent increase in home-based businesses in the past 20 years, and some of them are very lucrative. More than 10 million home-based businesses exist in the United States, and a majority of people moving to home businesses are women, Edwards said. There are 14 million direct-selling businesses, such as Mary Kay and Country Peddlers, which have sales representatives of their wholesale products who work from home on commission.

Evaluating Work At Home Success

Research conducted by the Kenexa Research Institute (KRI), a division of Kenexa(R) , a leading provider of talent acquisition and retention solutions, evaluated home and remote based employees’ engagement.

The results indicate that among U.S. workers, those who have been with their employer between 3 and 5 years and those between the ages of 36-45 are more likely to work from home. Men are also more likely to work from home.

Actual job functions reporting the highest percentage of employees who work remotely or from home are professionals (accountants, physicians and nurses), managers and those in technical and sales positions. Industries with the highest percentage of people who work outside of the office are business services, financial services (including insurance and real estate) and healthcare services.

Remote and home-based employees feel more favorably that their company has open, honest two-way communication. They also have more favorable opinions of their senior management. They see senior management showing more concern for the well-being and morale of their team members, demonstrating that employees are important to the success of the company, giving employees a clearer picture of the direction the company is headed and as more trustworthy. Telecommuting And Working From Home Not For All Companies

Working from Home One of the first things that a company has to be decided is how much access to grant employees. Do they simply need to download and upload files? Or do they need full-time access similar to what they’d have if they were sitting in the office? If the answer is the latter, that creates additional security issues and the need for encryption technology. Without it, the guy sitting one table over at Starbucks could be browsing your e-mail files. And will the company provide the equipment? Or is that the employee’s responsibility? There is a distinct advantage for companies that own the computers in their employees’ homes, since they can control what is and isn’t put on the computer.

Will A Home-based Business Violate The Rules Of A Condominium Homeowners Assocation?

    An Organizational Guide to Telecommuting

A home-based business requiring a business license would be a criterion to suggest that condo residents are conducting a business on-site. If the business has employees or clients coming to the unit, it could also be classified as a business. Also, warehousing a product, depending on the item(s), could be hazardous, as well as delivery vehicles driving in and out of a crowded parking lot. Certainly, the insurance agent or an insurance company underwriter will able to advise on whether the residents business activity creates a liability for the homeowners association.

But then, there are many forms of work at home which are mostly service-oriented; selling insurance, real estate sales, stock and investment advisors, etc. Are not these too, operating a business and technically a-foul of condo restrictions. It’s certainly a grey area.
