Baby Boomers Increasingly Provide Care For Living Parent
Newday chronicles a USA Today/ABC News/Gallup Poll earlier this year finding that 41 percent of baby boomers with a living parent are using their money, time or both to take care of them. And since most of these caregivers are at the leading edge of that famous cohort, it is just the beginning of an inevitable social - and personal - struggle. “They’re part of that ‘Me GenerationMe Generation,’” said M. Joann Wright, PhD, a boomer herself, and director of clinical training at the Family Counseling Center of Trinity Services in Joliet, Ill. “When they were raising their own kids, they were kind of resentful, the children being in the way of their partying. Now they’re experiencing the same thing again, with their parents. This is a group very much unlike the generation that came before us.”
