Hilton Reservations Worldwide Allowing Employees To Work From Home

Opting Out?: Why Women Really Quit Careers and Head Home

Six years after Hilton Reservations Worldwide call center opened in Streator, IL, it is closing. However, in an innovative and laudable move, the company is giving 170 employees the option of working out of their homes.

The company will provide $250 and an allowance for high-speed Internet service to allow employees to work from homes. The workers will be performing a similar service as they did when working within the normal office environment. Assignments will include making reservations for hotels in the chain and performing other customer service tasks.

The company would eventually like half of its 600 person reservation staff working at home. The savings in getting to work should offset the cost of any additional expenses that the work at home employees will occur for computers and broadband Internet access. The company has offered the same pay and incentives for working at home as available for office-bound workers.
