Using OneNote

OneNote 2007 Essential Training

OneNote was first introduced as Microsoft OneNote 2003 a few years back. In its latest form, Microsoft OneNote 2007, the application is even more feature-rich than before. OneNote offers the flexibility of a paper notebook and the power of digital note taking tool.

OneNote has the ability to provide digital assistance for the use, performing specific tasks such as brainstorming, storyboarding, and minutes taking. For work at home types, it?s a handy tool, particularly if you deal with lots of paper, research documents and notes.

Just about anything else in an office-type environment, home, or while on the go (with a laptop) can, in some fashion, be automated with the software package.

OneNote 2007 includes one important feature that allows the user to import an image, such as a scanned document, saved in JPG, BMP, GIF, or PNG format. Then, OneNote does an on-the-fly optical character recognition (OCR) of the image.

For most documents, an image scanned into OneNote 2007 will result in recognizable text which is then available for you to copy-and-paste, either elsewhere or on the same page, or even into Notepad, Wordpad, or Microsoft Word.

Power One Note: Unleash the Power of One Note

As with all other Microsoft products, OneNote 2007 has it’s own blog devoted to full use of it’s features, along with a number of templates available free of charge.

OneNote integrates in near seamless fashion with Microsoft Outlook. You will find that during the install process, OneNote automatically adds a button to the Outlook toolbar. Clicking the button will allow you to export email or other Outlook items directly to OneNote. And, for further functionality, a user can create Outlook appointments in OneNote, then easily add the appointments to Outlook through OneNote.

After using OneNote for many years, I am of the opinion that I don’t want to be without this useful application. OneNote is an integral part of the Office2007 software suite or can be purchased separately here.

One further note, I found the book shown above to be of great help, allowing me to get the most of this application. As with other Microsoft products, the software is so featured packed that without some form of reference, I couldn’t have possibly discovered all the neat and useful features.
