Finding A Temporary Job
We all know that the U.S. and worldwide economy is now in the throes of a major slowdown. As a result, employers are more hesitant now to take on full-time new hires than they were this time last year. The nightly news is full of “doom and gloom” when it comes to unemployment numbers.
Wholesale unemployment means more competition for each opening. But, that doesn’t mean you have to give up on the idea of looking for a new job. More so, if your current employer is going through a downsizing or seems more likely to announce layoffs, then your best bet may be to start your job search today.
Is there something different about job hunting during an economic slowdown? No, but one must adhere to the fundamentals. Your resume must be well organized, timely, printed on “bond” paper, list your achievements and be easy to read.
For each prospective employer, you will need to compose a customized cover letters that relates in a succinct fashion why you’re the best candidate for that particular job. Then you must diligently follow-up which includes a prompt and well phrased thank-you note, even if you are turned down – one never knows when that employer may need additional help.
